Online Discount Fashion Stores – Megan Gale Fronts Project Runway

Those interested in online discount fashion stores will be interested to hear that the model and actress Megan Gale has been given a top TV job for Foxtel.

The online discount fashion stores will be delighted to learn that Ms Gale has won the coveted role of front woman for Project Runway Australia; her first major fashion TV role.

It was reported in the media that the plum job as anchor for Project Runway Australia will go some way to make up for the breakdown of her relationship with comic Andy Lee. The pair had been together for over four years.

Ms Gale replaces Project Runway’s former host, Kristy Hinze, who is said to be returning to University and settling down with husband Kim Clark.

After spell as a top model, Ms Gale scaled down her activities on the catwalk to pursue a career in acting and her new bosses hope she will raise the viewing figures for the ever popular franchise.

There’s also been a change in the show’s judging panel, with rumours that designer Jayson Brunsdon – who’s closely aligned with Myer – is likely to be left out in favour of Alex Perry. It’s also expected that he will still be in place on Australia’s Next Top Model which is shortly to start production again.

Ms Gale was born in Perth in 1975 and is part Maori, and started professional modelling when she was 18, coming first in regional competition. She then moved to Sydney and following a number of years as a model, won a part in a number of advertisements for Vodafone Italy (used to be called Omnitel) from around 1999 to 2006. The Italian connection continued when she was chosen by the Australian Tourist Commission to be their face in Italy in a 2003 campaign.

Her career as a model has included work for many Australian and indeed Italian designers. Names such as Sass & Bide, Colette Dinnigan and Gianfranco have all used her services as a model to show off their collections.

But she is perhaps best known as a the face of David Jones, the upmarket Australian department store. She began in 2001 and used a David Jones winter collection show in Sydney in 2008 to announce her retirement from modelling. She remains a David Jones Brand Ambassador.

She has also appeared in a number of mostly Italian movies, including Stregata Dalla Luna, Bodyguards, Vacanze di Natale and Guardie del Corpo.

Whether she focuses on her new television career, or uses it a stepping stone remains to be seen, but online discount fashion stores aficionados will undoubtedly keep an eye on her future career in the media. But one thing is for certain, the name of Megan Gale will remain up there for some years to come.

Do We Now Favour Online Fashion Stores?

Not so long ago we had a limited number of opportunities to shop. We either took a trip into town, shopped from a catalogue or we clipped out a coupon and popped it in the post. That was it.

Today however, there is an additional place to shop. Today we have the Internet and what a place to shop that is. Despite being the new kid on the block in terms of actual places to shop, the Internet is rapidly overtaking all other places to shop put together!

So if we now favour the Internet to satisfy our retail therapy habit, what future does the high street have?

Since the first online transaction fourteen years ago, the tide of sales from the high street to the Internet has been one way, and it’s been gathering pace.

No longer limited by a lack of available retail space, online stores can carry huge inventories that their bricks and mortar counterparts can only dream of. Fashion stores in particular, rather that electrical or home ware stores, have taken advantage of this new found freedom and can now offer unlimited fashion ranges and a wider selection of sizes within those ranges. Add to that a virtual fashion adviser, a style selector and online fashion shows, it’s no wonder that the bricks and mortar fashion stores future looks uncertain.

It’s no surprise that high street fashion stores also have an online presence, because the alarm bells have been ringing for some time. At least one well known name in catalogue and home shopping has seen Internet sales overtake it’s traditional catalogue sales this year and has responded accordingly. In monetary terms alone, the return on investment on the Internet far outweighs the return of investment from a printed catalogue. The costs of producing a printed catalogue are huge, which will be unsustainable if the switch to the Internet continues.

Without having a crystal ball, it’s fair to say that sooner or later (probably sooner), shopping trips to town and flicking through a catalogue will be more of an exercise in nostalgia than necessity.

To combat the swing away fro traditional shopping outlets, it’s hard to see how the high street and the catalogues can compete. There are just too many advantages to shopping online.

For the time being at least, high street fashion stores are playing their part in the whole shopping mix and I’d suggest we should use them or before long we’ll lose them.

The Pros and Cons of Online Fashion Shopping

So let’s just break it down a bit to find out the Pros and Cons of it all so we can figure it out. So what things come to mind when it comes to comparing both, well let’s see;

Convenience

Pros: So you don’t have to drive off, take a bus or the train to your favorite store which that saves a bit of travel cash. You don’t really have to work around your job hours as you can probably shop from your smart phone on your break. Cons: It is less fun since it means you are not going to enjoy a trip to the mall. Also, sometimes when you go shopping you come up a bit short on cash to buy that cute sweater and you miss out on the convenience of borrowing money from a friend.

The Skinny: OK, this is a bit more of a Pro than a Con but that is still debatable, unless you are that friend who is always lending the money.

Store Layout

Pros: No physical layout means with a well design website you get to what you want when you want it. You will not be pressured by a store owner’s layout to dig through their preferred design to get to the brands you want.

Cons: It can be argued that the store layout is half the fun of visiting a local store. With all the multiple posters, sales messages and product placements you go into a store thinking you will only spend $80 but you come out with so much more.

The Skinny: This is probably an individual choice and to each their own on if they like store layouts or not.

Discreet Shopping Experience

Pros: No one needs to know what you are buying, when you are buying it, who you are buying it for, how much you are spending or where you went to buy it.

Cons: This sounds so lonely! Isn’t showing off to everyone what you are about to purchase half the fun? Plus you know the next day you can talk to your friends about the time you spent at the store looking at that cute skirt you almost purchased.

The Skinny: Unless you really enjoy the publicity of shopping in a local store, then the Pros have the edge here. But then again it does seem a bit lonely without having a store employee attend your needs.

Excellent Prices

Pros: With fewer overhead the items cost less to maintain in-stock so it is cheaper for the consumer to purchase. If you factor in that certain purchases can be exempt of taxes (depending on your state) and you also deduce the average cost of your transportation to the store, you will be saving a substantial amount shopping for your fashion selections. Cons: I beg to differ! You only really save on transportation costs if your purchase with free shipping, and most stores require a minimum purchase before that kicks in so unless you were planning to purchase their minimum to begin with it wasn’t an advantage. And even if it did save you money you still lost time, it can take several days to get the outfits you want after you have paid for them.

The Skinny: Better prices are a good argument that most people make for the Pros but it is a give and take where you accept the lower cost for a delay of delivery of fashion goods. So it comes down to balancing the choice of time vs. money most of the time.

By no means is this list complete as there are several other factors not covered such as; samples, hours of operation, customer service, reviews, reliability, variety, etc. as this article was more of a basis on online fashion shopping, not a straight comparison vs. local fashion stores, but we can see that the Pros of this type of shopping have created a competitive option in the fashion world and will continue to dominate certain areas for the near future. So what is your opinion about online fashion shopping?

Solving Online Fashion Shopping Problems

Every woman has been enamored with pop media images of Carrie Bradshaw and her closet full of stilettos, gazing lovingly into a store’s display window that displays her current obsession – designer shoes, and having a hard time with an attire because it is some vintage creation of a dead French designer. Ah, what women would do to have that ideal of tagging six shopping bags on a windy afternoon with three of your girlfriends, hopping from one store to another and enjoying some retail therapy. Alas, this only happens on TV. When a girl is stuck in a town with a center that has a diner, a gas station and a supermarket, there is simply no way shopping for loop earrings or 3-inch pumps, or even wholesale sunglasses is easy.

But then, that is where online fashion comes in. Doing fashion, shopping online is an answered prayer for all sorts of people. There are those who don’t like the shopping experience. They think that shopping entails too much effort and money and feel that it is inconvenient for them to spend too much time on shopping. There are also people who love to shop, but are too busy with their daily lives, having to deal with family, work and other matters. Then, there are also those who, like the example given earlier, do not live in areas that resemble New York. There are just not a lot of stores in some places, and some avid shoppers have to drive for miles on end just to go to an outlet store that unfortunately, is not at all as glamorous as women shopping on TV. Besides, how can you take advantage of low prizes for bulk items like wholesale sunglasses when you keep on buying through actual stores?

Wherever you are in the world, online fashion, shopping makes it possible to gain access to merchandise from so many shops, brands and inventory. There used to be three matters that made a lot of shoppers uncomfortable with the idea of shopping for fashion online. First is the idea of items that do not fit. This concern is very crucial to fashion items because customers may suddenly discover that since they did not fit the items before purchasing them, they turn out not fitting well. That issue has been resolved by a majority of online fashion retailers as they now offer free returns and exchanges. The second concern is with regard to the length of time items are delivered. It used to be that online shoppers complain that by the time they receive their ordered items, the fashion is already ‘last season’. In the world of fashion, being timely is important as trends become passé all too quickly. Nowadays, though, online stores offer delivery times for as fast as three business days even on international addresses.

The last concern would be with regard to people who love online fashion, but live in obscure locations. Aside from times for delivery considerably slower, earlier online shops also charged exorbitant delivery charges especially to customers abroad. However, couriers nowadays have tie-ups with international delivery companies, making deliveries first to a US mailing address before shipping in bulk to international destinations. This process all in all makes delivery charges way more affordable for customers.

Aspects Of Fashion Industry – Choose Your Fashion Merchandising Colleges

Fashion industry attracts many young people nowadays not only because it is a rather new profession, but also it is supposed to realize person’s likes in the field of fashion. Besides, it is quite a high-paid profession today. When a young person decides to connect his or her activity with the fashion industry nothing comes to mind except one its aspect – fashion design. Probably, few people actually know that it’s a separate field of fashion industry. In fact, there is a great number of other professions and specialties in fashion including designing clothing, fashion design, fashion marketing, fashion merchandising, etc. The latter doesn’t get worthy attention, but it is very important. Due to merchandising we have fashionable clothes in the shops and stores.

How can one know whether fashion merchandising is the field for him to start work at? Look through the following traits of a potential fashion merchandiser and if at least one point coincides with your way of life, you have all chances to make the career in the field. Do you like to spend your weekend walking through flea markets for the latest retro fashions? Or maybe your friends want to borrow your fashionable shoes and your defiant accessories? If so, maybe you should take a walk down the fashion runway. Being a student in merchandising, you will get an opportunity to learn more about fabrics and textiles. You are also going to study the cultures and subcultures that shape the way people dress.

No doubt, in order to become a professional merchandiser, a great desire and talent for this specialty is not enough. If a person wants to get into this career and have success in it one needs to get the right education and training at first. A fashion merchandising college will be of great help for you. Once you study at a fashion merchandising college you will get an opportunity to learn all the ins and outs of the fashion industry because there one can get a practical experience and build a strong foundation necessary for further working in this field.

A student has the right to choose whether to obtain a two-year Associate in Art degree or a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in the field of fashion. It depends on the kind of a fashion merchandising college you are going to visit. Besides, you are also welcome to unite this education with classes or even a major or minor in a related specialty, for instance, fashion design or fashion marketing. Students in a fashion merchandising college learn how to manufacture, buy, promote, and sell fashion items, beginning from clothing and jewelry to cosmetics and furniture. They also learn about textiles (fabrics and the fibers used to make them).

One should choose his or her future merchandising college very thoroughly. Depending upon the fashion merchandising college you are going to attend a sort of the necessary courses in your degree course will greatly vary. The most preferable courses include subjects like accounting principles, business law, salesmanship, fashion sketching, merchandising math, merchandising, publicity and promotions, fashion development, trend-spotting, and the history of fashion. You are certain to like those subjects, besides, they will give you the fundamental knowledge of the fashion industry.

Studying at a fashion merchandising college is not like studying at any other educational establishment. Many core courses in fashion merchandising are hands-on and involve a great amount of project work. Professors tend to rely more on their life experiences than on textbooks. If you are going to become a student expect to take a lot of field trips and listen to many guest speakers. You may visit a fashion magazine or large clothing company. You might even swing by a fashion show or two.

Having the profession of a fashion merchandiser is very interesting. It involves much communication with other people. When a person gets the job of a fashion merchandiser he or she is going to spend all days long visiting various fashion shows, buying clothing and designs, speaking with designers, overseeing advertising and marketing campaigns necessary for successful selling of your products, and managing the stores within your business network. You are also expected to find yourself negotiating business agreements with manufacturers and suppliers. Besides, you are going to arrange your own store displays. The scope of your activity depends on the size of the business you have as well as on the level of practical work expected of you.

Beginning the fashion merchandising career you should always improve your skills and knowledge of fashion tendencies in the world, and the most important thing you will have to do is to perfect your ability of picking out the next big thing in fashion before anyone else does. This will guarantee your success. This ability carries the foundation of your new knowledge of past fashions and trends. It includes everything you will obtain by attending a fashion merchandising college, but further you should develop this trend adding your own good taste in clothing.

Summing up, it would be necessary to say that the career of a fashion merchandiser cooperates with many different fields of the fashion industry. That’s why if you are searching for a more interesting kind of activity, something that’s more than just designing clothes or visiting fashion shows, fashion merchandising may be your piece of cake. But be very attentive while choosing an appropriate fashion merchandising college, try to use your wisdom in this uneasy task, because it may define your future profession and even you life. You should do your research before entering the fashion merchandising college, and beforehand check whether the school or program you are going to attend is properly accredited.

Your book shelf is stocked with fashion books and magazines, and you absolutely can’t resist visiting textile stores to view all the latest fabrics, decorative beads, rhinestones and trims.

It’s this ever present dream of being a successful fashion designer that has you work day and night on your designs in most cases for many years without pay and working a job to pay the pills which is brutal torture, when all you can think about is living and working in fashion.

Famous fashion designers come from all walks of life there is no one system to follow that will have you become the next famous fashion designer. Some have graduated from elite fashion schools and some have never attended fashion school. Some have undertaken a fashion internship with a fashion house and others have made their own designs in their basement. The only elements all these fashion designers have in common is they had an intense passion for fashion, were able to design fashions highly sought after and connected with someone who gave them the opportunity to break into the fashion industry. It is essential in becoming a successful fashion designer you get you and your designs out there as much as possible, as how will anyone know about your fashions if they can’t see them?

In getting your fashions out there here are a few things you can do:

1. We are not usually good at everything some of us are great at designing clothes but lack the sewing and pattern making skills. It is here you can partner with someone who shares your passion for fashion and has the skills you lack. It is in the bringing together of different skills you can create a real product that can be showcased.
2. In having a fashion line of 14 outfits you can apply to your local fashion week. In the USA: New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco all have fashion weeks. These fashion weeks attract many editors, journalists and local socialites who will see your fashions and potentially give you the exposure you need to get known.
3. Many city night clubs hold fashion shows, find out what night clubs hold fashion shows and contact them as to how you can be apart of an up and coming show.

4. Locate fashion boutiques that cater to the fashions you design, first make a trip to the stores to look around, if you can see your clothes fitting in well with the store, find out who the owner is and ask if they would be willing to have some of your fashions offered for sale in their store. You will be amazed at how many store owners are willing to work with you. I walked around San Francisco in the Nob Hill district and had my fashions placed after visiting and discussing my product with four boutiques. In having your fashions displayed you will receive valuable insights as to whether or not your designs are in demand and if you need to change your designs to increase sales. It will also give you free exposure to the public. When your fashions do sell you can present this to investors who are more than willing to invest in your line, when you prove the existence of a strong demand for your fashions.

Lifestyle And Fashion During The Sydney Fashion Week

Sydney Fashion Lifestyle is being pushed by the Sydney Fashion Week designers through their endless creative designs and remarkable fashion tips that almost all Australians love to idolize. Little black dresses have become one of their feature designs. These designs are something, maybe because it shows elegant and classiness, that people still dwell in it. Old style and old creations cannot, also, be disregarded. Those ancient styles have become the inspiration of the fashion trends these days.

The Sydney Fashion Week seems to focus in architecturally and geometrically contoured designs. The clothes, dresses, and other fashion related accessories like stilettos etcetera were shown dramatically and way stylish compared to any other Fashion Week. Sydney Fashion Week has also caught everyone’s attention due to the spunk that they have put in the styles of their fashion. In addition, the hairstyles that they have used in their fashion were inspired by the punk and tall rock and roll hairs of the ’80s.

Now with all the glamour and style, the big intriguing question is, does the creativity and the originality of fashion moving forward or backward? I do believe that a fashion week should be the time to celebrate an all new brilliant creation and showcase new ideas that can be used as one of the fashion tips in the next few years. However, as what I have observed, what happens is that they are proclaiming something that is already there. With the world putting their eyes on Lady Gaga and her experimental metallic wardrobe, fashion designers began making clothes and accessories that are accentuated with such design and presented it as one of the latest trends of the year. If this event keeps on happening, there is a greater chance that fashion will start to find its integrity falling behind. I say keep the fashion creations original and creative!

The reinvention of the classic little black dresses is fantastic. Classic designs have actually established it but this kind of situation just implies that the creativity of designers is losing its touch and it is a little bit saddening that although we have to thank the past fashion designs for today’s clothes, designers should still explore on new creations and the fashion lifestyle should try its best to make everyone see that they have the power to change this cycle from happening.

I am pretty sure everyone is still looking for and waiting for someone who would design something extraordinary and will not conform to the traditional designs and would become a front – liner in setting a new fad for fashion. Don’t get me wrong – I love fashion. But it seems to me that fashion nowadays lack some sort of excitement with their designs.

So what I am looking forward to the next Sydney Fashion Week is that designers would actually make something that will not only make a statement in the fashion industry but also something that will set a new fashion lifestyle for everybody. It should be something that could make people express themselves because the clothes we are wearing defines who we are.
